Liquid Instruments opens new office in Melbourne with plans to strengthen technology development in Australia

February 19, 2025

MELBOURNE, Australia — February 19, 2025 — Liquid Instruments, a leader in reconfigurable test instrumentation, today announced the opening of a new office at Melbourne Connect, The University of Melbourne’s innovation precinct. This expansion follows the company’s $12 million funding round in June 2024, led by Breakthrough Victoria.

The expansion to Melbourne, a hub for technology research and development, underscores Liquid Instruments’ commitment to advance Australia’s manufacturing sector and build relationships with industry leaders in the state of Victoria. Founded in Canberra in 2014, with a U.S. office in San Diego, Liquid Instruments develops flexible, FPGA-based devices that integrate a reconfigurable suite of test and measurement instruments in a single platform. The company’s flagship device, Moku:Pro, is widely used across aerospace, defense, photonics, optics, and other research sectors.

Located in Melbourne’s innovation district, Melbourne Connect provides a vibrant space for growth with access to state-of-the-art facilities and top scientists and engineers. Proximity to The University of Melbourne and other leading universities will help Liquid Instruments fill open roles in engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced manufacturing.

“Melbourne’s emergence as a hub for advanced technology, innovation, and manufacturing makes it the perfect choice for our expansion,” said Daniel Shaddock, co-founder and CEO of Liquid Instruments. “By establishing our presence at Melbourne Connect, we’re positioning ourselves at the intersection of academia, industry, and innovation — exactly where the next generation of test and measurement solutions will arise. This move strengthens our ability to collaborate with Victoria’s leading researchers and technology companies.”
With this move, Liquid Instruments plans to scale its manufacturing operations in Australia and develop new manufacturing partnerships for its next-generation devices. The company will also launch an internship program, giving students in Victoria new opportunities for hands-on experience in technology development.

Professor Eduard Hovy, Executive Director at Melbourne Connect, echoed Shaddock’s sentiments.

“Liquid Instruments is at the forefront of innovation in the test and measurement sector,” Hovy said. “Their cutting-edge technology and collaborative problem-solving approach make them a perfect fit for Melbourne Connect. Their presence will play a crucial role in strengthening Australia’s innovation economy, attracting top talent and unlocking new opportunities.”
